beach avenue XI: Farewell
one year ago today I wrote the blog "moved" - we were just four weeks in the new apartment Bamberger - seniors and accessible - we were happy because we were now able to live comfortably and conveniently. We had an elevator, underground parking, and in the small apartment we had room enough for everything that was important enough space in the bathroom for a wheelchair, safety in the toilet and shower, second toilet, but also well-insulated window, automatic ventilation, floor heating, blinds, low maintenance doors, windows and floors. In March, we were finally able to go to Fehmarn, where we could convert our tiny beach house so that we could use them well to the wheelchair. Then came the first days of spring in Bamberg, and we were excited about the first breakfast on the balcony. Of course on Sunday, for during the week was a lot of noise all around, and the dust of the many construction sites spun up on the balcony. Nearby houses were still built with condos, and gave up the Erba site is also a lively and into the evening hours long, loud construction activity. There was little rest, because even at the weekend drove all the groups of curious about the Maria-Ward-Strasse Erba on site, just to to go back because there was (yet) have access. after
Shortly before our departure Fehmarn I wanted to buy tickets for the Bamberg Biennale, which was dedicated to the music of Gustav Mahler. Mahler is the favorite composer of my husband, and the 9th Symphony we have on his 65th Birthday is on 19.12.2002, as we had together is the first concert in Bamberg. I thought I could motivate my husband to go back to the concert. We decided to attend two performances of Mahler symphonies. But the ticket office, I learned that it only seats for wheelchair users in the first row in front was left - in front of the stage. The accompanying person had to sit behind it. Furthermore I was really shocked. The seats on the dais, from where we had a really good view, were simply not available.
I'm particularly upset that the authorities tried to tell me my letter back to dine with discredited arguments and my replies did not simply react. The opportunity to go on foot with the chair in a concert hall was so simple - over.
In May, it can take some nice warm days - we were sitting in the evening on our large balcony on which we had so enjoyed. On the left side, there was an opaque window to the balcony of our neighbors - with whom we like were held in the evening for a chat. But right - there was - nothing. In the adjoining house was always when we were eating, a man on the balcony on the second floor and looked - I wanted to invite him to dinner. Not important, we thought, and enjoyed the early summer evening atmosphere. Until then the streetlights came on - which were so bright that we were blinded to the balcony. The romantic candle light had no effect at all. I wondered how to solve this - the Government would be inaccessible to collect a wall would be a structural change, and would certainly find no permit. Because the interests of the residents seemed the developer after the sale of the apartments even to not be as important as we had to learn the problem letterboxes.
There was only one plant with tiny boxes that stood outside the house. Letters and newspapers were wet in the winter the mailboxes were frozen. And larger programs fit into already not at all. You had to get dressed completely in order to get the mail. Quite different from the letter box, which had shown us in the sale of the home. There was all covered and there were very large mailboxes. My commitment to the improvement brought me the post of chairman of the advisory board of the Community Ownership - a beautiful and typical Bavarian title - but up to sell our Apartment 12 days ago has not yet endorsed any improvement.
the way we had in early May also ordered an awning for the balcony, which was mounted on our return from Fehmarn end of May. Because we had planned to spend the second part of the summer in Bamberg, but without the awning, it would not have been on the balcony to endure.
then again in early June was an introduction to the ventilation system, the second time since we moved. The first time I had heard that the furniture should be 30 inches away, three weeks after moving in, after our floor to ceiling bookshelves in the study had already assembled. When I inquired I was told by the representative of the company that it is absolutely necessary to clean the thermal fan. It would have to pull it out of the wall, but that was just not when furniture was before it. How dirty the filter was now, I looked from the outside - no wonder the air was in the rooms anything but fresh. They knew no solution - other than the dismantling of our bookshelves.
But my other questions remain without answer: Why was actually so warm in the rooms? Why do so came in no fresh air? In the winter we had an average heat of 26 degrees, the heating was hardly regulated. Even when the heating was very unusual, we still had 22 degrees. The bedroom was hardly cool, despite the thermal fan. There was always something fresh in the bathroom, the scion of heating to dry the towels jumped to infrequently. Well, in the bathroom just was not a heat fan, and so "müffelte" it a bit when we came back after several weeks of Fehmarn. Incidentally, it was very dusty, I was looking at the penultimate return a cleaning woman. The window, however, we have cleaned up the extract before - it would have been a pointless exercise. The representative of the thermal fan company said it would never be the need for fresh air - he was taken aback when I realized I had nothing better than fresh air. And I would like to open the window - Of course we had to leave the thermal fan.
Oh, one thing I have not mentioned yet: we do not have plants in your new home can keep. Our large indoor plants we had already disposed of in the moving week, because there was simply no place in a modern apartment with floor to ceiling windows. On the balcony you could not install window boxes, tubs and below the balcony railing we lacked the desire. A Christmas tree, we could not set up, but that was of course to our many furniture and the piano in the living room. Two small palm trees I had given my husband, they came out a few weeks without water. In the summer weeks, they found their natural End, after 22 June had set out to Fehmarn and then came back anymore. On 23 August, we issued the sales contract for the apartment - and I asked the agent to dispose of the dried-up palm trees.
Now we are moved again. I have not written about anything. But I will catch up. We are now living on "our sunny island," which presented itself in these days with much rain and storm. But to write the next blog. And we also have a palm tree again.
I wish you a pleasant week full of anticipation of the Advent.
